The Hive

The Hive is a social network for coders to find other coders to collaborate on their side projects with.

As developers, we often have projects outside of work or school to pursue our passions or simply sharpen our coding skills. When working on one of these side projects alone, it's very easy get stuck on a problem or go down a rabbit hole. This makes our projects less fun and exciting and we often let them just fall to the wayside. Collaborating with others on projects avoids this problem as it often gives you the help, guidance or motivation to see these projects through. However, finding others to collaborate with or projects to collaborate on can often be difficult and intimidating if you don't already have the right network or resources. The Hive was built to make finding collaborators easier and friendlier.

This was my final group project for Dev Bootcamp. I was fortunate to have my idea picked as one of the two projects our cohort built. I also served as team lead on this project and built out many of the site's front end components as well as some of the functionalities for the site's back end. The Hive was built primarily with Ruby on Rails, but we also used Ajax and JavaScript to improve the site's UI. We also used the Materialize CSS framework to implement some of the styling, and some gems (Mailboxer and Geocoder) to build some of the site's main features.
